David Wajngurt, M.D., M.A.

Position

Assistant Clinical Professor
Department of Medical Informatics
Columbia University

Director of Clinical Databases
Clinical Information Services
New York-Presbyterian Hospital

Responsibilities

The continued development, enhancement and daily operational management of the two campus-wide clinical databases at the Columbia-Presbyterian campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital: (1) the Clinical Data Repository (the patient care database) and (2) the Clinical Data Warehouse (the research-analytic database).

Clinical Experience

Director of Geriatrics - St. John's Episcopal Hospital, South Shore: 1995-1999
Attending, Departments of Medicine/Ambulatory Care, Mount Sinai Services at Queens Hospital Center: 1996 - present
Board-Certified: Internal Medicine and Geriatrics

Research Interests

My research interests revolve around the integration of various knowledge representation structures within databases. In particular, semantic networks (such as the CPMC Medical Entities Dictionary) are currently only loosely-coupled to clinical databases. The promise of a closer integration lies in more flexible user interfaces, facilitation of complex queries, and more flexible integration with other information systems.
