Pat Molholt, MLS, Ph.D.

Investigation into knowledge structuring, in particular the how inter-concept, non-hierarchic links are used, forms the basis of my research interests. The major focus of my work has been on the creation of a hierarchically structured thesaurus for the fields of art and architecture modeled after the MeSH thesaurus. This work led to my dissertation on standardizing inter-concept relations in vocabularies that are used for information retrieval and in knowledge-based artificial intelligence systems.

The second area of activity is the integration of electronic information resources into the medical and dental school curricula. This work is conducted in collaboration with faculty in the various disciplines and is intended to augment the classroom experience shifting some of the learning from the classroom to the electronic environment. The project is titled Columbia Health Information PerspectiveS (CHIPS) and is currently focusing on the first year curriculum. For examples of this work, please see cuMedLearn.org.
