General Summary
Investigation into knowledge structuring, in particular how inter-concept, non-hierarchic links are used, forms the basis of my research interests. The major focus of my work has been on the creation of a hierarchically structured thesaurus for the fields of art and architecture, modeled after the MeSH thesaurus of medical terminology. This work led to my dissertation on standardizing inter-concept relations in vocabularies that are used for information retrieval and in knowledge-based artificial intelligence systems.
The second area of activity is the integration of electronic information resources into the medical and dental school curricula. This work is conducted in collaboration with faculty from various disciplines and is intended to augment the classroom experience by shifting some of the learning from the classroom to the electronic environment. Much of this work is image-based. For examples of this work, please see http://cuMedLearn.org
