The department provides email service to the all members of the Department of Biomedical Informatics.

Your email address is in the format firstname.lastname@dbmi.columbia.edu. This is your official email address for all DBMI related mailings. Please do not forward your DBMI email to third party email hosting services (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail). In addition, we recommend that you forward your Columbia University email to your DBMI mail account.

Reading Your Email

The deparment supports a number of different methods for reading and sending email.

CUBmail

The Columbia University Information Technology group hosts the CUBmail application, a world wide web-based email system. Working together with our Technical Support group, it is possible to read your DBMI mail through the CUBmail client.

To access CUBmail, click on the link in the menu to the left, provide your DBMI Username and DBMI Password and select the proper server from the "Server" drop down list. If your mail is hosted on io, select the "Biomedical Informatics" server and if your email is hosted on bitwise, select "Medical Informatics".

Desktop Email Programs

You can use most desktop email programs to read your DBMI Email. Please enable SSL for your incoming mail server. Use the following server setttings to configure your email client.

Email Hosted on io.dbmi.columbia.edu
Incoming Server: imap.dbmi.columbia.edu

Email Hosted on bitwise.dbmi.columbia.edu
Incoming Server: bitwise.dbmi.columbia.edu

Outgiong Email Server: smtp.dbmi.columbia.edu
Please note: smtp.dbmi.columbia.edu will only work while on the CUMC campus.
