You can call me Sean, because it has similar pronunciation as my first name is Chinese. Just for the record, the meaning of my first name, which is given by my grandpa, means flying in the sky. I didn't become a pilot, but instead I have flied all the way from China to United States.

My hometown is Chengdu. A city locates at the southwestern of China. It is not only the capital of Sichuan province, but also the center of all the 3 pro\ vinces that region. The dialect there is called "Chengdu Hua". And in addition to its famous hot and spicy food, Chengdu is also the home of Panda. I have been there for more than 20 years before I left for Bloomington, Indiana, my first stay in US. Bloomington is a beautiful, quiet small town at central India na. It is the home of Indiana University-Bloomington campus. Life there was so different from here in New York. After got my master degree from school of in formatics at IU, I moved to Philadelphia and started to work in the Information Knowledge & Management group in GalaxoSmithKline for a year. Philadelphia is an old city with a lot of historic sites from independent days. But I don't quite like the city. To me, it is not well organized. But the experience in GSK was enjoyable. Then it is New York.

New York is one of the most unique cities in the world. I remember it is listed as the first place out of 50 places that a person should visit during his\ life time. I am glad that I have the chance studying in Columbia University and it enables me to taste this city. The city has given me a lot of new exper\ ences and I am definitely expecting more.

Now, I am pursuing my PhD degree in the Department of BioMedical Informatics (DBMI). In the first semester, I worked with Prof. Pavlidis on a microarray related project. Currently, I am in Prof. Califano's group working on BISON (Biomedical Informatics Structure Ontology)

.

In the past year, a door has been opened to me. Now it's time for me to explore the treasures behind the door. I am looking forward to it.
