Welcome to Patrick Ryan

Welcome to Patrick Ryan, who was just appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics. As most of you know, Patrick works for J&J but spends half his time on the Observational Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) initiative. He has published widely in pharmacovigilance and related epidemiology, and, with David Madigan, was one of the key members of OHDSI’s precursor, OMOP.

New JAMIA Student Editorial Board

Congratulations to the 2015-2016 JAMIA Student Editorial Board! The following AMIA student members will contribute to the peer-review process for JAMIA by attending Editorial Board meetings and reviewing manuscripts. The SEB will receive feedback about their reviews and learn about the operation of a scientific medical journal.

Department awarded BD2K training award

I am happy to announce that we were officially awarded a BD2K Data Science supplement to our NLM training grant. Thanks to Carol Friedman, Noemie Elhadad, Marina Bonanno, and the rest of Raquel’s team for putting this together. It will fund two data science students for two years. To quote Valerie Florance of the National Library of Medicine, “Congratulations on being NLM’s training trailblazer within BD2K”.
