This series took the place of our standard in-person Summer Research Program, which provides rising seniors in high school and college undergraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds (biology, psychology, engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, etc.) with fundamental knowledge, hands-on skills, and research experience in biomedical informatics and health data science; this program was cancelled this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We invite you learn more about this program, which we hope to return in the summer of 2022. 

What can student learn from these presentations? DBMI trainees discuss their own journey from varying undergraduate careers to biomedical informatics, and provide advice for students who are currently (or may eventually become) interested in the field. They also highlight what they find inspiring about the field and provide high-level overviews of their own main research focuses, from those in the earliest stages of the program to those nearing graduation.

Throughout these presentations, there may be terms or jargon that students are unfamiliar with, or don’t fully understand. Please don’t be intimidated by that, as our trainees were in the same position years earlier. Instead, we hope you can sense their passion for this field, as well as the wide range of disciplines and opportunities within it, and get an early introduction to the exciting — and critically important — field of biomedical informatics.
