Tenure Track Faculty Position
The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) of Columbia University seeks exceptional junior-level faculty members in the tenure track.
The positions are open to researchers interested in developing and applying informatics theory and achieving tangible benefits to health care and biology. Two particular foci are (1) machine learning for healthcare and health-related data science and (2) health information technology-based interventions to improve health care and the health of individuals and populations.
DBMI is an interdisciplinary department, comprising 45 faculty members and 50 students and postdoctoral fellows. The Department has amassed a large, diverse research portfolio, breaking new ground in several areas of informatics research. Its mission is to improve the health of the population and to make biomedical discoveries using information and computational techniques. It runs a diverse portfolio of clinical applications for New York-Presbyterian Hospital including a 6-million-patient, 20,000-user electronic health record and a number of vendor products. The Department is known for its work on informatics to support clinical care and clinical research, observational research, medical language processing, and translational bioinformatics.
The ideal candidate will have a strong record of accomplishments and publications in research areas spanning the boundary between life sciences and the computational sciences. In addition, senior candidates will have a strong record of funding. The candidate must have a doctorate in Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Computational Biology, or a related computational or health field. DBMI is especially interested in recruiting informaticians with a medical degree. The level of appointment will be commensurate with experience.
